i don't understand the direction of this recommendation. Why should any publisher or distributor take money and effort out of his product and profit to promote a competitor's product because you ask him to. Are his responisbilities to his users, employees, stockholders? Not to his competitors. If inter-operability is the design, then ALL must agree,yes? One veto, any veto damns such a plan. Why should the leader save number two or number five or number eight in a tough market when he does not own a share of them? Chessbase's ace-in-the-hole when offering a distribution deal to an outside programmer is interoperability and piggy back marketing. If outsiders could get that for nothing, wouldn't programmers defect? Please come up with a plan that serves the interest of those you wish to direct and in which you share part of its cost.
