I guess that there are at least 50 chess program authors active in the US and Canada. I know of at least one in Mexico, and I guess that there are more. Probably, 64 would be a much safer number. Makes the contest go a damn long time though. However, if it could be automated (e.g. every author has the program run at night, one game a night, continuously, it could be handled in a reasonable 2-3 months).
