If discipline is a corrective measure, why should soemone who is disciplined chose the context of their punishment(ref.publication of infraction)-- this is not equal protection because the consequences of an infraction by different posters are not the same. Moreover, if the subject of discipline had good judgement about these things, I doubt he'd require discipline at all, so why rely on him to decide in the place of those responsible persons elected to do that? If david is suggesting some scofflaws respond differently to public exposure, I can respect that but I do not see how to use it to the commnity's advantage. I might also add that someone in the doghouse will often look for sympathy by misrepresenting his situation; if a violater raises issues of mistreatment then the elected officials are compelled to respond publicly in order to assure the community of their own credibility, despite the fact that discussing personality qualities of these violators is incendiary.
