I used this kind of ideas in The Crazy Bishop. Knowledge-based adaptive null-move was very effective for me in endgame test suites. I did not test how much strength it provides in games, though. I remember it was tricky to tune correctly, but I am convinced it is a very powerful idea. Rémi
