Gian-Carlo,
MSVC 6.0 is old. Let it die and rest in peace. It was a great compiler and
trusty tool for many years.

As far as C++ is concerned and through my experience;
gcc 3.x is much better than MSVC 6.0; not just speed but also compliance.
