Can you specify winboard rating list ? Nowhere anyone claims to have THE
ultimate winboard rating list - it does simply not exist. The same is with any
chess engine rating list - we just have a SSDF List (and is fine with me when
e.g. Shredder advertise with being Nr. 1 at the SSDF List - it would be
different if they would advertise with being Nr. 1 in the world - instead they
can say: won the WCCC 2003 in Graz)

You must specify it clearly - in german it does read a bit different - there it
is stated that Ruffian 1.0.5 leads the list of winboard engines. That is a
different statement.
Also remember margin of error which is given by EloStat IIRC with a 95%
certainity. Even at the SSDF list it is not sure that Shredder is the strongest
- because taking into acout the margin of error it is still possible that Junior
8 is stronger then Shredder 7.04. With a 95% certainity it can be said that
Shredder 7.04 (2812 - 26 = 2786) is at least as strong as Deep Fritz 7 (2760 +
26 = 2786). Anyway, it is not possible with the given data to state that
Shredder is the strongest engine.
We as customers can anyway say that Shredder is the strongest engine, but for
the Shredder distributer and producer it is not possible to advertise it this
way - I am quite sure that this is true in nearly any country.
In this respect I may honor John Merlino and Ed Schröder - in this forum they
never advertise there products in any way (at least I have not sean any
indications about that) but give objective statemants when they were asked to do
so - this is a narrow path and they did a great job on it in my opinion.

Greets, Thomas
