Wouldn't you think that was fair enough? While you see GMs taking on other strong GMs one-one-one, this was a 4 GM whammy same time. I think extra time is perfectly valid, and does not in any way negate Kasparov's tremendous result. As for his comments about his chances in a computer simul, he was obviously being pragmatic and cautious. Having played Deep Blue twice, and other computers in the past, and training and analyzing with them, he has good idea of strength of today's programs. However, he may still beat them hands-down ala the Israel simul (with compensated extra time); but he had to make a prudent statement which he did. I don't think you could read much into that. Kasparov pretty much wipes out anyone in a match when he puts his mind to it. IMO, if such a simul were held today, I would once again put my money on "The Boss" (Garry).
