When the mate announcement is made it doesn't seem to be counting the first move. The program is showing mate in #7 but it is really showing 8 moves for Black. The same for the mate in #9...It was showing mate in 8 but really showing 9 moves for Black. What I found particularly interesting was the fact that Fritz 8 could not find it after approx. 5 minutes (I will let Fritz 8 spend more time on it, as well as other engines.) This only goes to show just how strong this Ruffian Engine is. I do not have Ruffian 2.0, but now I am seriously thinking of getting it. Ruffian runs a lot faster than Fritz 8. The kN/s were reading in the 1500's as opposed to Fritz 8 in the 1100's. Fritz 8 finds mate in 12 almost immediately. Then it finds mate in 11 fairly soon, and then goes back to mate in 12. Time to test other engines. By the way I am running an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1 Gig DDR SDRAM Hashtables set at 512 MB. I had it at 768, but Ruffian cannot use Hashtables at such a high setting. Brian
