The flexibility is definitely not free. To run in parallel the Opteron must be
at least 2xx (ie 248), which is an extra $200 (each) compared to the 1xx, ie
148. The two-processor motherboards are priced in the $400 range rather than
$100-150 or so for a single-processor. So you pay a little over $400 to keep the
option to upgrade.

This probably only makes sense if you will upgrade very quickly. If you upgrade
in a year, you'd probably want to start from scratch.
