I have a personal preference for languages that I can understand fully. And that have a clean syntax/sematics. What constitutes 'clean' is of course a personal judgement. Therefore languages like Eiffel, Ruby, Smalltalk, Oberon-2, Lua, Forth, PostScript and Scheme are preferable for me to C++, Python, Java, Ada and Lisp. Then there are languages that are such expressions of pure pragmatism that they are a beauty. Erlang and APL come to mind. When it comes to Scheme versus Lisp the simple fact is that the language specification sizes tell a lot. Both are really nice languages. But simplicity won me over from being a Lisp guy. And both have capable compilers. MvH Dan Andersson
