The current _goal_ is to land a robot and explore remotely.  That is what is
going on as we speak.  No humans will walk on Mars for 20+ years, most likely,
but it _will_ be explored, and it works pretty well, IMHO.

_sometimes_ a personal presence is desirable, but _not_ always.  Care to inspect
an operating fission reactor's core?  :)
