An independent company named Digitool continued the development, now under the name "Macintosh Common Lisp". It is still alive today, and is (as mentioned in my previous post) my favorite Lisp implementation. Even today, the MCL logo is an image of a coral. Unfortunately, MCL is still rather pricey (unless you can buy an academic or student license). There is a free demo version, but it exits after 15 minutes, which is of course extremely annyoing. There is also a completely free (GPL) product named OpenMCL, which is based on MCL. This is an excellent product, but unfortunately it doesn't include the development environment which is one of the main attractions of the commercial MCL. For the Mac, the free options are OpenMCL, Steel Bank Common Lisp and CLISP. These implementations all have their strengths and weaknesses, but for most purposes the first two are probably preferable. The commercial options are MCL, Xanalys LispWorks and Allegro Common Lisp.
