It is a program which prints out a list of all strings of printable characters
in a binary file. You run it from the command line by typing "strings
<filename>"

It's free, and part of the default install in all the Unix dialects I
have used (Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, FreeBSD and Irix). I am not sure it is
part of a default Windows install, but if it isn't, it should be easy to find
on the Internet.
