Many programs have been effectively using forward prunning techniques. I have thought of many but none are good all the time. So, lets call a set of forward prunning techniques a strategy. We implement several of these "strategies" in a program. Now, part of the program looks at a position and decides which strategy to use -- this could be called a type of planning. Of course, there would be other levels of planning too. There, I have dreamed up something. Is it new? I have never seen it published. Can it be implemented? That is the big question. Charles
