I am sure that you understood what my issue was about -- the phrase that referred to "the small world of Europe" which sounded very wrong and untrue to say the least. As for CCT, I fully agree with what was said and the points you brought up all make sense to me as well. However, what I fear is that the infelicitous phrase was actually used in earnest... Please try to reverse the point of view and imagine a European referring to the USA as 'the small world of the USA...etc.' Wouldn't you feel a little hurt and depreciated? I am sure that most of us from "over here" felt that way reading the post I reacted to.
