This is about the knowledge "bishop + wrong rook pawn" and it happens regularly when a program doesn't know about it. An eval of +4 is horrible here and you can't rely on endgame tables for the reason of the extra pawn problem. IE suppose you reach a position where your opponent has a king and rook pawn at h5, you have a king, wrong biship, and knight pawn at g4 and rook pawn at h4. Do you _really_ want to play gxh5 and win that last pawn, and reach a position you can't win? will you have the 6-piece table for the initial position? Not likely... > >Here some nice positions: > >king safety: >6k1/1pq1rbp1/p1nb3p/7R/3P3Q/2PB1NP1/3B1P1P/6K1 w - - 0 27 ;bm 27.Rh5 > >endgame: >8/8/8/7R/5pr1/2R1p1k1/6r1/7K w - - 0 74 >8/5pp1/4p2p/3k3P/1p1P2P1/1P1K1P2/1P6/8 b - - bm g5 > >imbalances: >8/6k1/p3Q3/2p1p2K/P1Pb1r1P/8/2r4P/8 b - - 0 47 ;c0 "perpetual check" >6k1/5pp1/8/8/4R2Q/q7/8/K7 w - - 0 1 ;c0 "perpetual check"
