In this case, I doubt that the secrets vs no-secrets issue has any great importance. With the possible exception of Stefan Zipproth (Aristarch), I can't think of any amateur engine at all which appears to contain any important secrets. Most of the engines just use all the well-known techniques, while the few authors who implement new and original ideas are usually happy to share them (Sergei is the most prominent example). The wide-spread sharing of ideas is one of the main attractions of this community, and the major reason I am still here instead of spending my time programming computer shogi. Tord
