I am not sure what you are asking.

IE no, I have not tried a LISP chess engine.

Yes, I did a _way_ selective chess engine in the early 70's.

And yes, I abandoned that after chess 4.0 showed that brute-force should not be
dismissed "just because it is exponential".

I have no idea whether Steven's ideas will work or not.  There's certainly
nothing wrong with experimenting...
