I don't know if somebody did this for chess already.
In the past there were several Othello (Reversi) programs using this approach.
They were using the scoring probability for a huge number of patterns subtracted
from hundreds of thousands high quality games. In fact this approach works
better for Othello then every other method I have seen. Michael Buro has done a
lot on this subject for his program Logistello, but there were several others
too including myself. I don't know if this method is feasable for chess as well.
It all depends on finding the relevant patterns I suppose.
