hi Alan > > Steve, > I know you collect the old dedicated chess computers. > You may contemplate cutting off an arm before you had > to chose one and just one from your collection. > > But I ask you the question anyway. > A situation obliges you to save one of your beloved > dedicated chess computers.Which one is it?.....Alan this question will undoubedly cause me to have recurring nightmares i am sure, but i will answer it nonetheless the choice would come down to three computers: the Novag Robot with one of the earliest version's of Dave Kittingers "MY CHESS" program OR The Fidelity Elite Premiere..the only dedicated computer ever released to contain two totally different programs(Mephisto Vancouver 16 bit-Fidelity Mach III) OR finally the Tasc R40 ..the strongest dedicated computer ever released for sale(even to this day) the Robot, although a marvel of technology, plays very weak chess(1350-1400)with a very limited opening book and if it ever broke it would be impossible to fix the Tasc R40 is much too strong for me(2400 elo)even at blitz so i would keep the..... Premiere i can sometimes snatch a game against it without takebacks! :)) great thread! Steve
