Fritz definitely has never done real bad. But after 1995 it never was the best.
It really was Shredder that dominated. Junior impressed by good tournament
performances, not at home. At home i only see horror&co from Junior, but they do
well at tournaments. Managed to beat DIEP somehow again in world champs 2003.

We can argue about shredder versus junior, but both have several world titles.

Fritz never was as an engine the best. It always was at some distance. In world
champs 2003 i definitely feel Junior&Fritz were at the same level, but it was
the Kure book there that really impressed. Fritz scored full points based upon
Kure. Kure's work i see as more significant as that from Frans. Nevertheless it
is clear Fritz continuesly progressed.

However the progress from Shredder to shredder 7.04/8 is clear. It is a huge
step forward and no one managed to follow that jump in 2003. In 2004 others must
proof they also have made a jump forward.

I feel DIEP has made some big jumps now, but of course i still had to make up
for more than others. Going from #5 a number of places up the ladder is already
real hard work.

Most do not realize how much chessprograms advance in playing strength each 2
years.

Only if you play these programs in the few tournaments they join, you know it.

The level at cct previous time i can only laugh for.
