I think you are little harsh here in your assessment.  For starters, SSDF is
ONLY computer vs computer play.

Secondly, one can tell by the opponent rating average , that they do not share
the same opponenents.

Thirdly, the SSDF is published with a stabdard error of margin and confidence
level -- and with ratings this close the only statistical assessment that one
may provide and be confident on is that it is simply too close to call.

Lastly, even if it were true that the engines are equal in chess strength - the
style of the engine could be so different from an earlier release that a user
would still enjoy play still have the benefit of an another engine with a
different style toplay against or to use in his engine vs engine tournaments.

Remember, the main objective for most computer chess program users is to have
fun and my assesment is that Shredder 8 fits that bill very well.  Plus with a
multi-cpu capability "built in" is a much better "buy" than the other "
pay for smp capability" engines (Fritz and Junior).

No , Shredder ,the strongest chess engine in the world available for purchase ,
is not a scam.
