Subject: Win against Crafty

Author: Mike Byrne

Date: 19:20:02 05/29/04

A couple of caveats. No takebacks. I had full access to Chess informant
ECO/MCO. Crafty's book was set to "0" book random with a width of 3. Repeat
games are very likely in that scenario. I allowed myself to repeat the same
opening. In addition, I was priviliged to see Crafty's thinking (that's a huge
plus for the human). On my 5th attempt with the same color, I was able to win.
Game was 30 minutes per side.

It was fun playing Crafty in this way ,although it was certainly not a level
playing field. It's was also a a good way to learn a opening line quite deep --
not that I'm expert - but at least have the main line of Najdort memorize to a
reasonable depth. You can also see why this line had fallen out of favor, none
of the top players play this line any longer.

The game below my game seems to be the game that caused this line to fall out of
favor with black.
