Should I partition my Harddrive for better performance with the Fritz 8 Chess Program and also the Nalimov Tablebases. My Tablebase folder is over 7 Gig (All 3, 4, and 5 pieced endings. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ with 1 Gig of DDR SDRAM 80 Gig Harddrive. I have just partitioned my harddrive into 4 partitions. And then reinstalled the Windows XP Professional Operating System. The C drive I set at 20 gig for the OS and whatever other files Windows installs with the installation. The D drive is set at 30 Gig and has my 7 gig folder of Tablebases since I would like to get the Chessbase 23 Gig set of DVD Tablebases The E drive is set at 15 for all of my saved data from either Word, Excel and of course Fritz games, Opening Books, Databases of Chess from many different Grandmasters plus the Fritz Database..etc. The F Drive is set at 10 GIG for my Applications. Fritz and any other applications that I will install. I did however, load MS Office 2000 on the C drive as well as AOL. I also installed the Printer Drvers on the C drive, Plus the drivers for the CD and DVD Writers. Other than those, I will place all other applications on the other drive. My 80 gig Harddrive only shows at around 74 gig from the start whether partitioned or not. Would it be better to place all of the applications,,,,,,,Including AOL and OFFICE and the Drivers for the Printer and CD AND DVD writer on a separate drive than the O/S. Even with the way I have it set.........Booting up is so much faster........Than it was with only a single partition. With a single partition......When booting up.....It would take a while and hang up, and I would hear the harddrive swapping for a few minutes before the PC was ready to use......Now, once I Boot up (Which only takes seconds) logging on, only takes seconds as well. Switching from window to window is quite fast now as well. Does partitioning have anything to do with this? Any and all info on this would be greatly appreciated. In the past I haved gotten some wonderful info from many of you Knowledgeable Computer Experts. I look forward to your Replies Thanks so much Brian Katz
