Hi Andrew. I'm older than you. I'll share some experience. The company I work for has an MIS department or about a dozen folks. Most of our software is commercial, but the MIS types do some in house development. The have committee meetings, meet with management etc. etc. Then, trying to please everyone, they produce a piece of crap that nobody wants to use. My job is not software development but since I know a little programming and database application I have, over the years, done a few company wide apps. I don't ask anybody anything. I just write it and stick it on a server and tell a few people about it. Everybody likes my stuff because it's easy to use and solves some problem that actually need solving. MIS hates me. We have a DOS app that I wrote in the late 80's that they have to support because everybody uses it and nobody can find anything to replace it. It's good you solicit feedback and suggestions. But keep in mind, you will never please everybody. For the project to progress someone has to take the bull by the horns and make decisions. You're the instigator so thet someone is you. If you build it (and it's any good) they will come. Dan H.
