Hardware is a major factor. Not to mention that such a short event, equal hardware or not, cannot determine anything "scientifically". They don't determine who has the best software. They don't determine who has the best hardware. They don't determine who has the best software + hardware combination. They establish rules and crown a champion based upon who performed best under those rules.
