Subject: Collector's Corner...testing the old computers..

Author: steven blincoe

Every now and again a collector has to test some of the rare computers
the best way to do this is to play an actual game against the unit,as it will
test every square, the program ..etc etc..

i decided to test the Fidelity A/G V9
this baby has a 68030 Processor running at 32 Mhz and 1 meg of hash table memory
for the endgame
rated at about 2150-2175 Elo..

i opened up the hidden door behind my painting in my den..which leads to a dark
staircase ..I slowly climbed down and entered the cold, dark, damp subterranean
vaults where my rare computers are kept..

i decided to take White(of course) and set up a Blitz game 10 min
i always adhere to the time control and will take the loss on time if i run out
i started the game with the Tromposki attack..

[Mid Summer Blitz Orgy]
[rare chess computer subterranean vaults]
[Date "2004.7.19"]
[White-Blincoe]
[Black-Fidelity Elite A/G V9]
[GAME/10 MIN]
[Result 1-0]

1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 Ne4 3.Bf4 d5 4.Nc3 g5 5.Nxe4
gxf4 6.Nc3 Bg7 7.e3 fxe3 8.fxe3 Nc6 9.Nf3 Bf5 10.Bd3 Bxd3 11.Qxd3 Qd7
12.O-O-O Nb4 13.Qd2 O-O-O 14.a3 Nc6 15.Kb1 Kb8 16.Rhf1 e6 17.g3 Qe7
18.Qe2 h6
[D] 1k1r3r/ppp1qpb1/2n1p2p/3p4/3P4/P1N1PNP1/1PP1Q2P/1K1R1R2 w - - 0 19

at this point i was getting bored so i decided to mix it up on the Queens side..

 19.Qb5 a6 20.Qe2 Rhg8 21.Ka1 Na5 22.Nd2 22...c5
23.dxc5 Bxc3 24.bxc3 Qxc5 25.Ka2

[D] 1k1r2r1/1p3p2/p3p2p/n1qp4/8/P1P1P1P1/K1PNQ2P/3R1R2 b - - 0 25

obviously b2 is better, but i had my eye on b7..

 Qxc3 26.Rb1 Qxc2+ 27.Rb2
Qc7 28.Qxa6 Nc4 29.Rxb7+

[D] 1k1r2r1/1Rq2p2/Q3p2p/3p4/2n5/P3P1P1/K2N3P/5R2 b - - 0 29

how sweet it is!

Qxb7 30.Rb1 Qxb1+ 31.Nxb1 Rd6

[D] 1k4r1/5p2/Q2rp2p/3p4/2n5/P3P1P1/K6P/1N6 w - - 0 32

at this point the V9's evaluation showed it up by almost 2 pawns, but it had less
then 2 minutes remaining(i had 1 min 35 sec)..i knew if i could get my Knight
back in i would win ,it would not be able to search deeply because it wouldn't
have the time..
now for some useless maneuvering to make it use even more time..
:))

 32.Qb5+ Rb6 33.Qd7 Rb7 34.Qa4 Rc8 35.Nc3 Rb2+ 36.Ka1 Rxh2 37.Nb5 Na5
[D] 1kr5/5p2/4p2p/nN1p4/Q7/P3P1P1/7r/K7 w - - 0 38

of course the Knight is Taboo,as its mate on c1

38.Kb1 Nc6 39.Qa6 Rh1+ 40.Kb2 Rh2+ 41.Kb3 Re2 42.Qb6+ Ka8 43.Nc7+

[D] k1r5/2N2p2/1Qn1p2p/3p4/8/PK2P1P1/4r3/8 b - - 0 43
game over dude!

 Rxc7 44.Qxc7 Rxe3+ 45.Ka4 Re4+ 46.Kb5 Re3 47.Qxc6+ Kb8 48.Qb6+
Kc8 49.Qxe3

FINAL POSITION
[D] 2k5/5p2/4p2p/1K1p4/8/P3Q1P1/8/8 b - - 0 49

the rest is not pretty..but i enjoyed it thoroughly none the less

well. i guess the V9 still works..and maybe so do i
:))
