If I remember correctly playing against humans reduced it's rating because they were so weak that even winning against them meant losing rating when movei had no stable rating. No strong human wanted to play against movei in the time that it played on ICC. It had also problems to get games against programs because for some reason some programs had some formula against players without dixed rating. 2)If the target is to inflate rating then I think that playing against specific programs that you can be sure of winning against them thanks to some killer book can be more productive then avoiding computers.
