Not at all.  A car salesman could sell you many different kinds of
cars.  He honestly believes you are better off with the van, because
you have a growing family.  You are hell bent on buying the sports
car.

You try to sell the van, but when it comes down to it, you'll
sell him the sports car if that's what he's going to buy (from
you or not).

Does that make your argument to buy the van unsound?  No, just
'advice untaken'.
