I had asked this question early last year. Yes, at lower plys, the ratings go up
by approximately 200 points, but the number gets much smaller at higher plys.
This corresponds to doubling cpu speed. At some point, i.e. 9 plys or above, the
next higher ply relates to a doubling of cpu speed. The trouble is that, at
higher plys, even doubling cpu speed might not be able to complete the next
highest ply as the number of nodes to be searched grows exponetially.
