I am doing quite well in my testing against GES, the paradox is that GES has a lot more chess knowledge than I have in my program. I presume the reason I am doing OK though is my dumb eval means that my nps are fairly high and I am therefore outsearching GES a lot of the time. This seems to suggest that you have to put an awful lot of chess intelligence in to make up for every lost ply of search caused my the more complex evaluation. I dare say someone has tried to measure this and written a paper on the topic, would be interesting to see the conclusions. Geoff
