Go up one level in this thread

I ran my program for sometime before deciding to implement "if enter
queisce from main search while in check, then test for a mate". Adding
this feature made a noticable improvement. It seems quite obvious that
it would and obvious that there would be no negative side-effects.

It is easy to see that not using it could cause the miss of a mate in a
search. This miss would be caught at the next level. Of course, the
necessity of this addition is eliminated or required based on how you
   handle check extensions.

If you extend on checking the opponent, then it is not needed.
If you extend on check evasion, then it is needed.
