Subject: ProDeo and the *.eng file

Hi,

at the moment i test some pd settings with 3 different opening positions
(C68, D27 and D41).
Not one of mine or other (albert, thorsten...) settings could score better
than 1 out of 6 against Shredder8, Fritz8, Junior8 or Hiarcs9 until now.
(time controll 40moves/20min + 40moves/20min + ...)

Yesterday i had an idea of changing a parameter.

Normally i do this in the following manner:
I create a new textfile and copy the rebel default settings (09, 2004)
into this textfile.
I make my changes and then i save the file and rename it in "rebel.eng" and
than i copy this rebel.eng into the personal folder.

Yesterday i've forgotten to rename and the new file was called rebel.txt
of course.

Because of this, ProDeo was playing the 6 games without any "rebel.eng"
in the personal folder, only the rebel.txt were in there.

In this case the param.txt look like this:
***************************************
Executable made on 01-08-2004
Personality Path personal/REBEL.ENG (52)
Personality description
Initial Hash Table Size 60 Mb
Current Hash Table Size 60 Mb
Move no. : 25
Minimum Time : 00:00:18
Average Time : 00:00:37 (30)
Maximum Time : 00:01:01
Spare time : 00:01:01
Time till next Time Control : 00:08:32
Time Control phase : 1
***************************************

The little match against Shredder 8 ends with a 3.5-2.5 for ProDeo!!
I've made the same against Hiarcs 9, the result was 3.0-3.0!

Questions (to Ed):
What kind of PD was playing?
Could it be an older Rebel 12 style when playing without a correct named *.eng
file?

Best G.S.
