Hallo Gerhard, I was curious to see if maybe the last used .eng file could still be in memory, probably you also checked that, but that does not seem to be the case. With a "noparametertest.eng", an empty file, I actually thought I saw slower NPS, around 148000 NPS compared to about 160000 for custom settings that have Chess Knowledge = 200 and all else equal, should be a bit slower than default. (But I suppose that depends on lot of other parameters as well, not just Ches Knowledge.) The empty file engine does go through the subsequent plies pretty fast though in total nodes searched per ply, which would suggest to me that possibly not a lot of extensions are being used. So the behaviour on my computer looks just a bit like settings that have normal/default Chess Knowledge(=Lazy Eval) and few extensions. But I don't see the high nodes per second you observed. This is what I get again in the position from Ferret-Gandalf, with the game loaded, (hash and learning cleared) after 42.Qa1 (Celeron 500 MHz, 28 MB HT).
