The seller has already rejected escrow services with me, so I >seriously doubt that he would accpet escrow services with somebody else. > >If it's a true newbie - he might have his lunch eaten. a newbie bidder,for his very first ebay transaction.. diving right in and going for a 4 figure item..i dont think so :) i remember my very first ebay transaction over 4 years ago i very carefully and with shaking hands and mouse placed a $5 bid on a chess book watched that auction for the full 7 days.when i won i was half excited and half worried i was going to get ripped off actually this is becoming very entertaining to watch.. another possible scenario.. this is a shill bid by the seller the seller would be placing the bid hoping to stir up some real interest and attract a real bidder..baiting the hook..so to speak i have seen that happen before of course if this theory is correct he will not allow the auction to close if there are no other bidders,because he will not want to pay the Ebay fee on the $1000 IF there are no other bidders the proof of the shill bidding will be that the seller will close the auction prematurely giving as an excuse something like.. "the item is no longer available for sale" this is better then watching tv :) Steve
