Very old Mindscape/Software Toolworks programs, such as Chessmaster 4000, Mavis
Beacon Teaches Typing, etc., used a custom GUI library that was the predecessor
to the one used in current versions of Chessmaster.

I don't have Chessmaster 4000, but I do have Mavis Beacon 3, which was created
about the same time. It exhibits the same problem, even though I'm running
Windows XP. So, I'm afraid that there is no way to fix it. You should be able to
use the keyboard to run the menu, though, just like with any Windows program.
