To avoid that problem, I trained myself to do just that kind of text "Find the mate or winning move" search before looking for something more quiet. An old russian player, Alex Tolush, used to say that when examining the position the first thing he always did was to search for a way to sacrifice the queen. "If there is non, then and only then I begin to look for more quiescent moves..." Wisdom at his best I believe. fernando
