of course your point is very valid

an attempt like you suggest was made in the Fidelity Elite A/G Series starting
with version 2(model 6114-2 and higher)
a full meg of ram was devoted to saving positions where the evaluation of the
position for the computer dropped drastically..this position was then saved and
the computer would not repeat the position leading up to it
it was called a "learning Feature"

not exactly what you mentioned.. but something similar
