Computers like white because white has two passers on the 7th rank practically :) If you took all possible positions with KRPPvKR and the strong side has 2 passers that advanced, almost all of them are wins. Actually figuring out which are which is almost impossible, which is why we have Eugene :) Lastly: a good rule of thumb in positions like these (=simple endgame, you think its a draw) is that if the machine shows the exact same score from ply 12-20, it is probably a draw. If you have a +5 score, the score will go up every iteration, because when you are up a rook it so, so easy to make forward progress, UNLESS, your eval is way off. Just look in the PV, realize it doesn't see a win, and chalk it up to silicon stupidity. cheers, anthony
