Is there any reason you need to keep flogging this topic? In a nutshell: Chess will never be solved in our lifetime. But there will always be people (scientists, mathemiticians, hobbyists, etc.) who are going to be working toward that goal (either directly via tablebases or indirectly via improved search methods or better compression or smaller data storage or faster processing or whatever). Are you actually suggesting that all of these people (at least the ones working DIRECTLY for that goal) just stop what they are doing because you think their work is pointless? I had no idea that scientific research was a dictatorship run by you.... jm
