I think the main reason is that he cannot stand the idea of starting to lose. Summing it with the fact he has got no option for a revenge. You can go on calling yourself "the srtrongest" instead of the worldchampion, but it is not enough for him. Botwinnik did the same whe he got no revenge from Petrosjan.
