While there does not exist a vast amount of books in English on the old
computers,there are of course some

the most prolific English writer on the old computers was David Levy who essayed
forth about a dozen titles

Tim Harding released two books in the early -mid 1980's dealing with the
currently available dedicated units of that time

many consider the mid 1980's as the "Golden Age" for chess computers

his 1983 "The Chess Computer Book" followed by his 1985 "The New Chess Computer
Book" (both by Pergamon Chess)are MUST haves for anyone interested in computers
during this time period or for anyone serious about their collection
they are my personal favorite chess computer books

here is a link to a fairly exhaustive listing of books on computer chess
while some of the titles are about Mainframe chess computers there are many
listed about the dedicated units
the link also makes suggestions as to where these books can be purchased

the two Harding books are mentioned as well:
