The G5 still uses the 970 or 970FX which are POWER4 derivatives.  For a machine
which is now 1.5 years old, crafty bench of 2.6 mnps is pretty good -- only the
dual opterons and dual 3.4 Xeons beat that, and a dual 2.5 should bench over 3.2
mnps.
Processor upgrades are expected "real soon now" -- if you want to speculate,
search for the 970MP and IBM-Sony CELL technology.
