All depends on what you want to find out. If you want to identify the strongest computer, it might already be sufficient to check for the most performing hardware. If you want to find out, what is the best program, you must proceed a little more sophisticated. There is no need to have identic hardware. You could apply a Drhystone test at each computer and distribute the calculating time inverse proportional to that. This would be a serious method to focus the chances on the programs itself.
