SSDF is trying to establish a rating for CM6000. To do this, it is necessary to play it against other programs with established ratings. Hiarcs 6.0 on a P90 has a very good established rating of 2437 plus/minus 20, based on 1219 games, which is quite a large sample size. Therefore, the results of this match can help to determine a fair rating for CM6000. If CM6000 can beat it and beat it handily, so be it, but there was no way to know this beforehand. SSDF will ultimately test CM6000 against at least a dozen other programs, some which will have ratings higher than CM6000, some with lower ratings. In this manner, a fair estimate of CM6000's strength can be obtained. To criticize the SSDF for selecting this particular match is, in my opinion, rediculous.
