I did.

There are two commercial alternatives: CodeWarrior by MetroWerks and the PPC C++
compiler from IBM. I used CodeWarrior for many years but switched to Apple's
Xcode/gcc back around 2002.

The IBM compiler is said to produce the fastest/smallest object code. I tried
it myself a while back but gave up after various installation difficulties.

At this point in time Apple is discouraging using CodeWarrior for new projects,
and I rather doubt that IBM is interested in supporting their compiler on OS/X
given Apple's recent chip redirection.
