Pondering probably has some importance.  Glaurung's time management doesn't
work quite as well with ponder on.  This would be easy to fix, but I've been
too lazy so far.

I think Glaurung's strength no longer depends very much on the time control,
though.  The CEGT results are not too different from the various blitz rating
lists.

I think it does quite OK.  It is near the middle of the very strong 1st
division, and I see no reason to complain about that.

Not much.  If I recall correctly, the differences between these two versions
are very small.  I think 0.2.4 should be around 50-80 Elo points stronger
than both.
