Subject: Collector's Corner..Summer Giveaway Contest #2..

Portable chess computers have been around since the early days of dedicated
chess computers
While an exact definition is hard to come by, most collector's will agree that
a portable is one that can be held in one hand and runs on batteries, although
actually playing it will require two hands

while many larger computers can run on batteries they really cannot comfortably
be played without resting it on a desk or other flat surface

Portable chess computer collecting is not for everyone
indeed many collector's have no interest in this niche of the hobby while some
will collect only the small marvels

collecting portables has some obvious advantages over their bigger brothers
namely, the cost which is much less and the space requirement for storage is also
far less demanding

indeed, one can acquire a fairly good collection of portables for the price of
only one high end wooden computer

some portables are quite strong and one does not have to necessarily sacrifice
strength for size

the Question..

please name the VERY FIRST PORTABLE chess computer to be released for sale
the winner will be the FIRST member to correctly post the EXACT FULL NAME and
the YEAR OF RELEASE

i am asking for an exact name because many computers in the early days had
similar names

the winner will receive free of all cost(including shipping) the Excalibur
Cutless
itself a very nice portable ,with an information rich LCD display it will play
at around 1600-1700 USCF
and of course will run on batteries
:)
i will ship Worldwide

it will come with the manual and full piece set
in very good condition but NO BOX

the answer

i will keep the question open until 12 PM Midnight (EST) Saturday July 30 2005

Good Luck Regards
Steve
