Look at this position: [D] rnbkqbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBKQBNR w KQkq - 0 1 You can play a game that is a mirror of normal chess until you castle. After castling king and rook are not at the mirrored positions. Look at this game [Event "Mirrored game"] [Site "here"] [Date "2005.08.01"] [Round "?"] [White "VA"] [Black "VA"] [Result "*"] [BlackElo "2350"] [Time "17:20:54"] [WhiteElo "2350"] [TimeControl "1500+5"] [SetUp "1"] [FEN "rnbkqbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBKQBNR w KQkq - 0 1 "] [Termination "unterminated"] [PlyCount "7"] [WhiteType "human"] [BlackType "human"] 1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bg5 Nc6 4.O-O-O * You reach this position: [D] r1bkqb1r/ppp1pppp/2n2n2/3p2B1/3P4/2N5/PPP1PPPP/2KRQBNR b kq - 5 4 The mirrored game is impossible in standard chess. This was easy to show. Incompatibilities in Shredder-FEN are not that easy. So the only way to make people see them is to wait until problems arise... I am optimistic concerning the future of Chess960, but the way will be unnecessary (?) complicated. Greetings, Volker
