Subject: Shredder and missing knowledge for bad-Bishop endgames......

Author: George Tsavdaris

One of Shredder weak points is some wrong-color-Bishop endgames.
The above is just an example but of course there are thousants similar (E.Nemeth
posted many at the past) and this can probably cost at tournaments and I WONDER
WHY SMK DOESN'T FIX THIS?!?!?!?

At the above position*** 53.bxa5? draws and should be avoided. But Shredder 8
plays it with a high score. I don't have Shredder 9 and i don't know if this has
been corrected(i doubt) but i expect from a top program to know such simple
things.........OK, i will buy Shredder 10 because it will be the best in
engine-engine matches and will top all lists(probably) and it will find many
great moves and be great at analysis, but i expect it to be more knowledgable
from a 1500 player.
I think SMK should waste some time, fixing similar things instead of
concentrating 100% at improving pruning techniques.

Fritz 8 for example "understands" instantly the position. Fruit 2.1 has big
problems too and plays the drawing-move thinking it is certainly winning......

*** = All analysis made, was with all 3&4 tablebases pieces and some 5 tablebase
pieces....

What does Shredder 9 and 8 play on your computer with all 5-piece
tablebases.......?
Does the 5-pieces (KBKKP or KPPKP) help Shredder to avoid 53.bxa5?.....?
